Map Preview: Brushgather Farm Basement
almost 7 years ago – Tue, May 16, 2017 at 02:49:17 PM

I've gotten a TON of work done with maps lately, including having figured out the right combination of filters and effect settings that gives a much better "cave/dungeon" look and feel.

As a side note, this is how things went with DO1: I spent a lot, a LOT, of time establishing settings and preferences, and once I had all that set up, I could hit the ground running and churn out maps insanely rapidly.  I already have three levels of Brushgather Farm basement done, as well as a five-level Watchspire that I'll be posting previews of shortly.

Take a look here for a preview of the style we're talking about... this is what's going on just a few feet under Brushgather Farm. (The translucent walls overlay shows the building outline up above the cavern.)

For those who haven't gotten any IGS/Dark Obelisk products yet, it also gives you a feel for the way we do maps, and the approach we use to having GM and Players' versions of each and every map in our products.

Production Update: May 15th

Production Update

I've finished all of the NPC statblocks/crunch for everyone in BB.  Working on putting all of that into the doc, and also on the 5E crunch conversion simultaneously.

Also cranking out maps for the handful of setpieces/side quests I have in mind.  More previews shortly.

Map Preview: Brushgather Farm
about 7 years ago – Thu, May 11, 2017 at 02:05:03 PM

Readers of DO1 may already be familiar with Cora Brushgather, an NPC tied into a few of the more minor plotlines in that adventure.

She and her family get their own dedicated semi-standalone adventure in Berinncorte Basecamp; in that book it takes the form of a chapter.

Northeast of Berinncorte, the halflings' family farm is a large an simple establishment... at least until recently, when in the wake of the Obelisk Eruption, it was invaded by the Forces of the Obelisk and taken over.

This is a preview map and mainly just to give you a sense that things have indeed been progressing... work yet to do on the GM version etc.

Reminder: KS Survey Deadline June 1st, BackerKit Coming Soon

Kickstarter Survey

Many thanks to those of you (78!) who have completed the Kickstarter survey; I appreciate it.

If at all possible, please complete the survey by June 1st.  This will make things far easier on me for fulfillment and tracking!

BackerKit

A link for this will be sent out as soon as Kickstarter finishes collecting and processing funds from the campaign.  They say this takes up to 2 weeks; in my experience it's generally closer to 1 week so hopefully this weekend I'll be able to pull the trigger.

The BackerKit survey is where you will be able to identify whether you would prefer a Pathfinder or a 5E product, if you would like additional add-ons, that sort of thing.

Production Update

Things progress.  All NPC statblocks are completed; the crunch is 80% laid out already.  Rumors & Lore are about 75% complete.  Mapping for the standalone adventure--surprise, heh, yay!--that's embedded in the book is about 50% complete.

Hopefully early next week I'll be sharing some maps... stay tuned!

New Kickstarter: Artifacts & Artifice
about 7 years ago – Mon, May 08, 2017 at 02:47:00 PM

TL;DR:

Check it out here.  Grab a free, 19-page sneak preview of what it's all about here.

First FAQ: Will This Delay Other Products?

Short Answer: No.

Longer Answer: Nooooooooooooooo.

Helpful Answer:  Artifacts & Artifice is a collaboration with a fellow indie RPG geek and established author.  It's 25% complete already.  It will be developed in parallel to Dark Obelisk 2 and other products that are in the pipeline, and should not delay any of those products.

As with other recent campaigns, the Kickstarter is mainly to fund additional art and content.
