On Target for End of August Completion

It's true.  Huzzah!  Cannot wait to get this out the door to everyone.

Content Fleshout

Completed: Gate Exterior, Market Square, Blacksmith's Tent, Supply Tent

In Process: Bar Tent, Library Tent; aiming to complete these by COB today.

I'm on target despite not having accomplished what I'd wanted this week, given that 2/3rds of my children were sick for most of the week and I think I slept an average of 3 hours a night.

Onward!

(Roll-your-own joke as to how that's the first time in this project that I've had much cause to type "On Schedule")

But it's true!  Brushgather Farm and Watchspire components are completed.  I've been touching up the general fluff and stuff that applied from the DO1 DP&B.  And work has commenced in earnest on fleshing out the locations of interest in the city exterior proper.

I'd say I'm on target to wrap this thing up by end of the month.

Further updates as events warrant, but as always, I cannot say enough about how your patience is appreciated.  Hopefully you end up agreeing that it was rewarded, as well!

Question: DO1 DP&B Okay?
almost 7 years ago – Fri, Aug 11, 2017 at 06:01:15 PM

Hi there,

I received a notification from one backer who received a copy of the Dark Obelisk 1 Dramatis Personae & Bestiary.

The cover was fine, but the contents of the book itself were actually of the Adventure Book!  Since this is the first reported incident of this happening, our conclusion is that the printer may simply have messed it up... but I want to be absolutely certain.

For those of you who have received hardcovers of the DO1 DP&B, can you advise if your copy's contents are erroneously a duplicate of the Adventure Book like this one backer?

Thank you in advance for helping with quality control!

This could be a first: I'm on schedule.  At least for this week and last.  :)

Brushgather Farm

Finished on Sunday night.  Huzzah!

Watchspire

In progress; on target to complete by end of this week.

Basecamp Itself

Starting this in earnest by week's end.  Maps and content outline is all laid out for this; it's just a matter of finishing the flesh-out.

Crunch

All the crunchwork is done and prepped; it's a matter of laying out a few additional monsters (how did I not yet have Giant Spiders in the bestiary section?), and most awesomely, inserting all of the dozens of pieces of updated NPC art into the existing statblock chunks.

Concerns

Myself in your shoes, I'd be looking at the above and getting worried about timing.  Fret not (or at least, fret less): though the "Basecamp Itself" piece is by far the largest, the individual components will go much more smoothly and rapidly.

There are dozens and dozens of submaps in the Basecamp Itself piece, but each one is not a huge amount of custom effort to flesh out.

There will be a general preface section that makes GM'ing these components very easy and straightforward; in fact it'll be easier than running Brushgather Farm because it's more streamlined and straightforward.

Timeline

So, the important question: when am I getting Berinncorte Basecamp?

My revised goal is to wrap this up by the end of the month.  Based on the recent pace of progress, I feel that's a reasonable objective... reasonable enough, in fact, to actually mention a date in a status update!

Production Update: Getting There!
almost 7 years ago – Thu, Aug 03, 2017 at 03:18:32 PM

Brushgather Farm, the single largest component of the book and a ~120-page standalone adventure unto itself, is nearing completion.  The large, four-story house is entirely finished, and the much-more-enormous, three-level basement is about 80% done as well.  I hope to finish it by end of this week.

Next week should see the start, and completion, of the comparatively straightforward Watchspire, a setting kind of structure that is repeated throughout western Aquilae.

From there, it'll be full-steam on the post-cataclysm structures outside of the city.  These are beautifully detailed, darkly atmospheric maps (I'm a bit partial, heh), but the fact that the citizenry has been ravaged by evil and the population decimated will make these structures relatively straightforward to flesh out in a rapid manner.  To offset the relative simplicity, I'll sprinkle in Quests throughout; I've already added on a few.

Onward!
